STaR chart

The lowest and weakest area for our campus is key are II: Educator Preparation and Development. We have continued in the developing technology range throughout the past three years. It looks like the state is at the same level my campus is at. This area is dealing with professional development experiences, models of professional development, capabilities of educators, access to professional development, levels of understanding and patterns of use, and professional development for online learning. We have gained a point from 2006-2007 to 2007-2008 in the areas of access to professional development and professional development for online learning. I think this is because we have had some professional. Personally I do not think we have had enough. We have one day or 1/2 day shots at technology instruction, but nothing ever gets followed up. We get great information, but no follow through and it usually is not used and then lost. We have got to have continuous training throughout the year(s). I would also like to see us use online training. I think my coworkers would be willing to spend time learning on thier own as to sitting in a workshop for 8 hours. We have not really been given this opportunity to learn this way.

TEKS Summary

The Pre-K Technology Applications TEKS primarily deal with working on basic computer skills. They learn how to work the mouse and how to work thorugh basic software programs. The pre-k students learn how to work with cd players. They also learn that information can be gained through using a computer. Teh foundation is laid for future grades because these young studetns understand the basic workings of the computer.

Students build each year on thier computing skills. They learn how to manipulate specific criteria throughout the years. Their wordprocessing skills get better as they learn how to write and read and understand the workings of the keyboard.

Long-Range Plan

I think this information is great. We need to prepare our students to be successful in the growing technology world. They need to be competitive in this economy. Before we can properly teach our students to be technology smart and use good judgement with technology, we as teachers need to be instructed as well. I personally do not feel like I am making an impact on my students in the technology world. In our school some students do not get a technology class because they are taking lab classes after lab classes because of not passing TAKS. As a classroom teacher that gets all the kids, I need to be implementing technology skills in my class. It is not happening. I do use the laptops in my room, but I have trouble getting all the computers on the Internet at the same time. I can usually get 5 laptops on the Internet and I need at least 15 on the Internet if the students are sharing. If they are working by themselves I need more that 25. It becomes very frustrating to have planned for this lesson and then the technology does not work.

I am also skeptical about where does the state think they are going to get the money for this plan. Our district has had to have 10% bedget cuts the past 2 years. I hope the funding becomes available.

Technology Assessments

There is a a lot of information on technology that I do not know. The one area that I need to concentrate on is creating a spreadsheet. I do not know how to work an Excel spreadsheet very well. Once a spreadsheet is developed, I can work with it, but I cannot develop one. I know the basic software applications functions. I do not know how to delineate between the carious digital file formats. I have done this once, but do not remember how to do this. I cannot capture digital files while conserving memory. My picture files are always so large. My husband is always complaining that the pictures I send him are too large. He has yet to teach me how to make them smaller. I have recently learned how to us Boolean search strategies in the research class. It make searching for items so much easier. I have known for a long time that I need more professional development in technology. Our district provides professional development every so often, but it is one session and there is never any follow-up. I would like to have high quality professional development that teaches us how to integrate technology into the classroom. I would like for this professional development to be year round. We get information in a one time setting and then it is never used because their is never any follow-up. I recently took a technology class on photo story and windows movie maker. The presenter gave us great handouts to use and refer back to so we can follow the steps when creating new presentations. It is always helpful to have refernces to use when re-creating things already learned.
